What is Lapatinib?

Lapatinib 250 mg is an anticancer drug that is used with patients in chemotherapy to stop the growth of cancer cells in the breast and kidney.  Lapatinib, in combination with capecitabine, is indicated for the treatment of patients with advanced or metastatic breast cancer whose tumours overexpress HER2/neu (ErbB2) and who have progressed on prior Letrozole therapy in the metastatic. Lapatinib, in combination with trastuzumab, is indicated for the treatment of patients with hormone receptor-negative metastatic breast cancer whose tumours overexpress HER2/neu (ErbB2) and who have progressed on prior Letrozole therapy(s) in combination with chemotherapy in the metastatic.

How to take Lapatinib?

Lapatinib treatment should only be initiated by a physician experienced in the administration of anti-cancer agents. It is combined with Capecitabine and it should be taken with food or within 30 minutes or after food.

Missed doses

You should not miss your dose. It should not be replaced and the dosing should resume with the next scheduled daily dose. Require to administer only one tablet per day.

The recommended dose of Lapatinib is 1250 mg (i.e. 5 tablets) once daily continuously. No more than that is recommended. Taking more will create resistance against the cancer cell and it may lead to the ineffectiveness of Nilpat 50 mg.

Combining Lapatinib with letrozole for breast cancer?

The recommended dose of Lapatinib is 1500 mg (i.e. 6 tablets) once daily continuously when taken in combination with letrozole. When Lapatinib is co-administered with the aromatase inhibitor letrozole, the recommended dose of letrozole is 2.5 mg once daily.

Side effects

  • Diarrhoea: In case of diarrhoea, you should stop taking and resume with a small dose once the situation improves.
  • Nausea
